The Town of Stoughton is a residential community seventeen miles southwest of Boston. Stoughton was originally settled in 1631 and incorporated in 1726. The homes are an attractive blend of old New England architecture and modern design. 

Residents have many cultural opportunities because of their proximity to Boston and easy access to Routes 24, 93 and 95. Commuter rail service to Boston is a reliable mode of transportation for both commuting and entertainment purposes.

The Town’s population was 26,962 at the 2010 federal census. School enrollment for the 2019-2020 school year was 3,492.

The citizens of Stoughton support public education as evidenced at recent Town Meetings. Town Meeting representatives have funded full-day kindergarten for all children, school renovation projects, robust arts programs, and appropriated funds for technology in the Stoughton Public Schools.

In June 2016, Stoughton residents approved a debt exclusion override to fund the construction of a new Stoughton High School. The groundbreaking happened in June 2017. The new school opened in the fall of 2019.

In addition to the school day, the Stoughton Public Schools provides various after school and extended year programs at different grade levels, including academic and enrichment programs during school vacations and summer vacation.

A wide variety of youth activities are sponsored by the Town’s Recreation Department, the Public Library, and religious and civic organizations.
